How To Become A Self-Healing Master
I believe that it is my purpose in life to inspire, teach and assist people to heal, connect and be the best version of themselves. Sometimes I do this by working deeply with an individual, holding their hand as they make the steps required to heal and take a leap of faith. More often though, I share wisdom through my words, through my books and posts like this one.
When I work 1-on-1 with clients, my objective is always to empower them to take their wellbeing into their own hands. To educate themselves, to experiment to find out what works and what doesn't. Yes, I can be there to help you through a difficult time, but my job is to teach you to function without me.
And as much as I'd love to, there's just no way that I could work individually with everyone. So, I feel that it is my duty to teach you how to recover, heal, cope, find strength, create solutions and build resilience by yourself.
I do believe that professional support is important and helpful, but I also know that it's far better to be able to rely on yourself so that you can manage when you have a set-back while your therapist is on holidays!
So, here's my top 8 ways to become a self-healing master.
1) Focus On The Goal
Get a clear picture of how you would like your life to be rather than focusing on the problems that you currently face. Whenever you get off-track, remind yourself where you're headed and align with the feelings of having achieved your goal.
I know how easy it can be to get bogged down by unpleasant symptoms and life circumstances that you wish were different. But, enjoy the moment as best you can and remember where you're going! It will get better.
2) Educate Yourself
Read, learn and ask questions. Knowledge is power.
Take notice of your healing/recovery process as you experience it. Observe your quirks, triggers, struggles and strengths. Record it all in a journal. This will show you how far you've come and also become a wealth of knowledge about how you heal/recover/thrive best.
3) Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness practice is non-negotiable in my book. It doesn't have to be formal (although formal practice does make a difference if you can find the time.)
Even just taking a few mindful moments every now and again throughout your day will make a big difference to your health and wellbeing. Whether you're on a recovery journey of some kind or just want to nurture yourself to be the best you can be, mindfulness is an essential ingredient to add to the mix.

4) Stop Wasting Time On Things That Don't Matter
It is far too easy to fill your life with distractions if you let yourself get sucked in to time-wasting habits. Instead of letting your habits run wild, ask yourself this question:
How do I want to spend my time now?
Let the answer flow from within. Sometimes you truly do need some veg out time in front of the TV, but not always. Listen to your heart, and make a conscious choice about what you’d like to do with the time that you have.
5) Develop Your Intuition
If you want to be a self-healing pro then you need to be able to listen to the needs of your body, understand what the universe is trying to tell you and sit back and let your heart take the wheel.
Having a strong relationship with your inner guidance will help you to make the best possible choices without ever second-guessing yourself. A reliable bond with your intuition will save you time and prevent confusion, as you can always give yourself exactly what you know you need instead of over thinking and endlessly searching for the answer.
6) Create A Regular Spiritual/Exercise/Relaxation Habit
Preferably all three.
The things that you do everyday have more of an impact that the things you do once in a while. To be an expert self-healer, do something small everyday to nurture your spirit.
Go for a walk, do a 5 minute meditation practice, read a book or do some stretches. Regular rituals to feed your soul do not go unnoticed, they become the foundational building blocks for vibrant health and wellbeing.
7) Be Kind To Yourself
Let go of the need to heal yourself and just treat yourself lightly, gently and tenderly through the process. Accept that healing takes time. Breathe through it, move slowly, make peace with your life as it is right now.
Self-Love and gratitude are essential to any recovery journey, particularly if you're having trouble staying on track. If you find yourself getting stressed out at any point along the way, re-align with your goal, enjoy the present moment and come back to love.
8) Seek Help When You Need It
If you're anything like me then you probably want to defiantly achieve your goals all by yourself just to prove to yourself (and others) that you're really strong and clever. If you're a well-practiced self-healer, then you probably won't need external support as often as you used to, but I believe that we can all benefit from professional guidance in our lives, no matter where we're at on our journey.
In fact, part of being a self-healing master requires you to identify when it's better to get help rather than go it alone (I've done it!). Knowing when to seek help will get you achieving your goals quickly and more easily too!
